Maldives Airports Company Ltd (MACL) announced a new record on runway movements at Velana International Airport (VIA) on December 22.
According to MACL, the airport recorded a total of 239 flight movements, including 101 international flights and 121 domestic flights.
This marks the third time VIA broke their own record this year, the first of which was in February with 219 flights and then on December 1, with 226 flights.
Notably, all of these records were broken on a Sunday, which according to MACL, is their busiest day of the week.
MACL’s Corporate Communications General Manager Hassan Areef revealed to local media Mihaaru that this holiday period attracts the most number of tourists to Maldives. He added that with such a large of flights coming in, passenger safety is their highest priority.
